In Nepal, the opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) today declared two more autonomous states as a part of its third phase of anti-government protest, despite concerns expressed by non-Maoist political parties. It includes Tharuwan autonomous state comprising five districts in western Terai and Seti Mahakali autonomous state that included hilly districts of far west region. On Thursday, the Maoist declared Kochila and Limbuwan autonomous states.Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had criticised the Maoist decision to unilaterally declare federal states, saying such a move violates the interim constitution and the comprehensive peace agreement. He urged the Maoists to withdraw their protest programmes and declaration of autonomous states.Various political parties have also expressed their concern over the Maoist move stating that it undermines the supremacy and the significance of the Constituent Assembly. A meeting of the Maoist central committee last week decided to go ahead with its previously announced plan of declaring 13 autonomous states as part of its protest movement.
