Nepal’s Supreme Court has scrapped the writ petition against the three month extension of the Constituent Assembly. A five- member special Bench headed by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi on Sunday in its final verdict said that since the parties have come closer on the disputed issue and the task of writing the Constitution is in progress, there is no need to annul the ninth amendment of the interim Constitution, which lead to the extension of the Constituent Assembly by three months. The Bench also cited its May 25th verdict with the doctrine of necessity which said, since there was only three days for the extension of the Constituent Assembly to expire, it made no senses to annul it. Mr. Bal Krishna Neupane and Mr. Bharat Jungum had filed the writ challenging the legality of the extension.
