Nepal’s Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to the government on the extension of the Constituent Assembly’s term by three months. A single bench of Justice Tahir Ali Ansari has asked, President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister JhalaNath Khanal and Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Nemwang to produce a written explanation on the legality of the extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly. The court ‘s action comes after Advocates Bal Krishna Neupane and Bharat Mani Jangam had filed a writ, challenging the decision to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly. They have argued that the extension was illegal as it was done hours after the deadline had expired on midnight on 28th May. The House which had convened just before the expiry of the deadline and the five point agreement between the three major parties had been extended in the wee hours of 29th May morning.
