Nepal’s ruling parties urge opposition Maoists to withdraw indefinite strike

In Nepal, ruling coalition partners have urged the opposition Maoists to withdraw their indefinite general strike that entered the second day today and follow constitutional procedures to seek change in the government.<br/><br/>A meeting of the ten ruling coalition parties held at Prime Minister's official residence in Kathmandu today adopted four point resolutions urging the Maoists to be serous on drafting of the constitution and conclusion of the peace process. <br/><br/>The meeting resolved that formation of a national unity government can be discussed after the Maoists agree on a package deal on army integration, drafting of the constitution, return of seized properties.<br/><br/>he Maoist leaders including the party Vice President Nayarankaji Shreshtha however threatened to continue their indefinite bandh until the Prime Minister puts in papers to pave the way for formation of a Maoist led national unity government.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that Maoist Chairman Prachanda held a series of bilateral meetings with the Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Krishna Poudyal, CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and other leaders during the day. <br/><br/>The top leaders of three major parties are also scheduled to meet later this evening in a bid to prevent the crisis from precipitating further.<br/>
