Nepal's Parliament to conduct 17th round of voting this afternoon

Nepal's Parliament will conduct the 17th round of voting this afternoon to elect a new Prime Minister. The re-polling is being held as the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudyal, the lone candidate in the election fray failed to muster the required simple majority in earlier elections. Poudel remains the lone candidate after CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalnath Khanal withdrew from the electoral contest before the voting process started on July 21 and the Unified CPN(Maoist) Chairman Prachanda pulled out of the electoral race after the futile 7th rounds of voting. Unified CPN(Maoist) and CPN(UML) have decided not to vote in favour of Nepali Congress candidate Poudel in today's polling requesting him to withdraw from the election fray to begin afresh a new election process.
