Nepal's parliament will hold the 10th round of voting on Wednesday afternoon to elect a new Prime Minister after nine earlier attempts to end the current political deadlock failed. Nepali Congress candidate Ram Chandra Poudel is the lone contestant after Maoist Chairman Prachanda withdrew from the election fray before the 8th round of polling. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that today's polling is unlikely to succeed in electing a new Prime Minister as it will not be possible for the Nepali Congress with 114 seats in parliament to muster the required simple majority of 300 votes with the Maoists, CPN-UML and other parties having decided to abstain from the voting process. Nepal's three major political parties who have failed to arrive at a consensus on Tuesday agreed hold a meeting before the voting today in a last minute attempt to find a way out to end the ongoing political deadlock on government formation. While the Maoists and the UML have been requesting the Nepali congress to withdraw its candidate from the electoral fray to pave way for forming a national consensus government, the Nepali Congress has refused to do so until a package deal is agreed to among the major parties on issues relating to peace, constitution and power sharing in the new government. Nepal has been without an effective government since July this year following the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on 30th of June.
