In Nepal, the newly appointed Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi has assumed his office at the Supreme Court today. He was earlier administered the oath of office and secrecy by the President Dr Ram Baran yadav at Shital Niwas in Kathmandu in the presence of Vice President Pramananada Jha, prime Minister Jhala nath Khanal , Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang and other dignitaries .The Chief justice said his primary objective was upholding judicial independence, ending delay in justice delivery and making justice accessible to minority groups. Regmi, 62, has replaced Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha, who retired yesterday. The Chief Justice , who has a four-decade-long experience in the judiciary, will serve as Chief Justice for a period of over three years before he reaches the retirement age. .Earlier, the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee has unanimously endorsed the nomination of Regmi as the next chief justice of the Supreme Court on April 28.
