Nepal's CPN(M) decides to withdraw Prachanda from PM race

In a bid to find a way out of the current political deadlock, Nepal's opposition Unified CPN(Maoist) has decided to withdraw the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda from the Prime Ministerial race. The eighth round of voting is scheduled for September 26.This was decided following a meeting of the top leaders of the Unified CPN(Maoist) and the CPN(UML) including the Maoist Chairman Prachanda and CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal in Kathmandu today.Talking to newsmen, Unified CPN(Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said both the parties have decided to try to form a new government on the basis of national consensus. Shrestha said neither the Maoists nor the CPN(UML) would take part in the eighth round of election Sep 26. He urged the Nepali Congress to withdraw from the next round of voting and pave way for forming a new government on the basis of national consensus.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that Nepal is in process of electing a new Prime Minister after Madhav Kumar Nepal resigned in June to make way for a consensus-based coalition government. However, the parties have failed to elect a new PM even after seven rounds of voting.
