Prime Minister of Nepal Jhalanath Khanal has said he will resign when an alternative arrangement is made for the formation of a national consensus government and its formation is materialized. He made this remark after the term of the Constituent Assembly was extended by three months early this morning. A five-point deal was signed among three major political parties – Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) – to pave the way for the extension of the Constituent to accomplish the tasks of peace process and drafting of the new constitution. The deal includes completion of the first draft of the constitution within three months, resignation of Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal to pave the way for a consensus government, make Nepal army’s structure inclusive by implementing the past agreement with Madhesi Morch. Maoist Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said the parties expect that the draft of the new constitution will come within three months. Main opposition party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the Prime Minister will resign as per the agreement and Maoists have agreed to handover weapons and to integrate about 5000 to 6000 combatants.Chairperson of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Democratic) Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar expressed confidence that the stalled process of peace building and constitution making will get accomplished within three months with the commitments from three parties for peace, constitution and national consensus. The deal was struck in the wee hours of this morning averting the constitutional crisis that was threatening the Nepal. The bill which amended the interim constitution to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly was placed in the house was passed by two -third majority.
