Nepali PM URGES CPN to withdraw proposed strike

Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the opposition Unified CPN(Maoist) to withdraw its proposed general strike and declaration of autonomous states, saying such move violates the interim constitution and Comprehensive Peace Accord.Inaugurating the two-day national conference of women journalists in Kathmandu today, the Prime Minister said that the Maoists are treading the path of confrontation by violating past agreements and constitutional provisions.He urged the Maoists to join the politics of consensus and collaboration to find a way out of the current political stalemate.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that despite concerns expressed by non-Maoist parties, the Unified CPN (Maoists) has unilaterally declared two autonomous provinces without waiting for a consensus or formal understanding on the model of federalism that Nepal would adopt. The Maoists yesterday declared Kochila state in the East and Limbuwan in the West as new provinces.
