Nepali Congress, the oldest party in the country and the second largest in the parliament will hold its election on Tuesday to elect a new President to succeed Girija Prasad Koirala, who passed away in March this year. Three candidates – the current Acting President Sushil Koirala, former three-time Prime Minister Sher Bhadur Deuba and a veteran leader Bhim Bahadur Tamang are contesting the election. According to party sources, a total of 340 candidates are in the fray for election to the 64-member central working committee including 22 for the key posts of the President, General Secretary and the Treasurer. Of the total 85 members in the Central Working Committee – the apex decision making body of the party, 21 members will be nominated by the party President. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that Nepali Congress has for the first time reserved 6-seats for women, 5-each for Adivasi-Janjati, Dalits, Madhesi and one seat for Muslim community to make the central committee more inclusive and broad based. The party election is taking place tomorrow on the last day of the 12th general convention of the Nepal's oldest political party which began from Saturday in Kathmandu. More than 3000 party representatives from across the country are attending the indoor session of the convention.
