In Nepal, a key ally of the ruling coalition and the second largest party in the parliament – Nepali Congress has reiterated its stand that it will not accept a Maoist led government unless the former rebels provide a credible time table for integration and rehabilitation of its combatants, a key element of ending the peace process.Talking to newsmen in Kathmandu today at tea reception hosted by the Prime Minister madhav Kumar Nepal at his official residence, the Nepali Congress, party Spokesman Arjun Narsingh K.C said party will consider withdrawing its candidate Ram Chandra Poudel from the Prime Ministerial election only after the Maoists give a tangible commitment on concluding the peace process. The opposition Maoists, have on the other hand alleged that the rigid stand adopted by the Nepali Congress has led to the failure of the two-day long intensive discussions held among the top leaders of three major parties at a resort in the outskirt of Kathmandu last week.Meanwhile, the Chairman of the CPN(UML) Jhalanath Khanal today held a meeting with the Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala to discuss the strategy to end the current political deadlock on government formation ahead of a key meeting of the three major parties scheduled to be held tomorrow. The meeting of three major political parties held on Friday at a resort in the outskirts of Kathmandu discussed few options on forming the next government that included forming a Maoist led-government, a non-Maoist government and a government to be headed on rotational basis among the three major parties until a new constitution is drafted. The meeting also discussed issues relating to implementation of the past agreements, concluding the peace process, constitution drafting process and passage of the budget in the parliament. Given the rigid stand taken by parties, it would be difficult to say if tomorrow's meeting of the top leaders of the three major parties would come out with a solution to end the ongoing political deadlock. Last Friday's meetings ended inconclusively.
