Nepalese police today succeeded in opening the Birgunj-Raxaul border point with India after 40 days. They forcibly removed the agitating protesters from their sit-in spot on crucial Miteri Bridge at Indo-Nepal border.<br/><br/>The protesters hurled stones on police when the latter started removing them early this morning. They were eventually chased away by the police. Nepali media quoted Raxaul customs superintendent Arun Kumar Rajat as saying that the trucks stranded on Indian side will now be sent to Nepal as the border has been cleared.<br/><br/>Talks between Nepal government and Madhesi groups agitating over the country's new constitution yesterday ended inconclusively, but Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa said the<br/>dialogue was moving in a positive direction. Madhesis of Terai region have been protesting close to the main Indo-Nepal trading point near Raxaul, through which about 70 per cent of bilateral trade is done. Their agitation has led to a halt in supply of essential goods, causing acute fuel shortage in Nepal.
