Dorjee reports from Kathmandu that the meeting of the eighteen ruling parties has advised the Prime Minister to seek consensus among all parties including the opposition Maoists on the budget proposal in view of the impending financial crisis facing the country. The meeting pledged full support to the caretaker government in the passage of the budget even if the Maoists refuse to cooperate. The Maoists have been opposing the caretaker government from presenting the annual budget saying only a new government can do so. Analysts believe that further delay in presenting the budget will lead to slowdown in growth rate and dversely affect the implementation of developmental projects. The prevailing political uncertainty and strong opposition from the Maoists, the largest party in the parliament against has led to protracted delay in passing of a full budget in parliament with the government running out of money even to pay its employees and meet basic necessities like medicines for government hospitals and feeding inmates in prisons.
