In Nepal, the Parliament has decided to go for a 4th round of polling to elect a new Prime Minister as both the contestants – Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda of the Unified CPN (Maoist) and Ram Chandra Poudyal of Nepali Congress failed to muster the simple majority required to get elected in the third round of election held last night. Announcing the election result, Speaker of the Parliament Subhash Nemwang said both the contesting candidates could not secure the required simple majority. Maoist candidate Prachanda polled 259 votes out of total of 581 votes cast, while his Nepali Congress rival Ram Chandra Poudyel won 124 votes. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent said, neither of the two candidates secured the required simple majority as the CPN (UML), four Terai based parties and smaller parties that constitutes a total strength of over 200 members in the parliament abstained from voting process. While the CPN (UML) had taken the decision not to take part in the voting process during the first round of voting, the Terai parties decided to abstain from voting this afternoon. The next round of election of the Prime Minister will be held on Friday.
