Nepal has announced the date of local bodies polls. In a cabinet meeting held at Kathmandu last evening it was decided to hold local bodies elections in a single phase on May 14. Prior to the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal held consultations with the Election Commission of Nepal. The civic polls have been announced despite the protest from Madhesi parties, who had been demanding an amendment to the Constitution before to the poll announcement.<br/><br/>Meanwhile the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of seven Madhes-based parties have announced to protest the decision. In a statement Morcha said that torch rallies will be held across Nepal on Tuesday and bandh will be observed in 20 districts of the Tarai on Wednesday. The Morcha has also said that announcement of polls would not change their position that constitution should be amended before the polls at any cost. Prime Minister Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that constitution amendment process and the poll preparations will go side by side.
