Nepal to hold cabinet meeting on climate change

Nepali government has decided to hold a historic cabinet meeting at the Base Camp of Mt. Everest on Friday to highlight the impact of global warming on the Himalayas ahead of the UN convention on climate change in Copenhagen next month.<br/><br/>Announcing this at a press conference in Kathmandu today, Forest Minister Deepak Bohara said, the meeting, to be presided by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, will be held at Kalapatthar, the Mount Everest base camp located at an altitude of 17,192 ft. He said it will be a symbolic gesture to express Nepal’s commitment to safeguard the environmental sanctity of the Himalayas in the interest of local, regional and larger global communities.
