Nepal government has decided to deploy the army for security of Hydro-power projects, including the Upper Karnali Hydro-power project in Western Nepal. The decision was passed by the Cabinet yesterday in Kathmandu. Energy Minister Gokarna Bista called it a landmark decision and expressed hope that it would ensure timely construction of hydro-power projects. The 900 mw Upper Karnali Hydro-power Project in Dailekh district is being constructed by India’s GMR led consortium. On the 22 nd of last month a large mob of people had vandalized and torched all the three office buildings at the project site and a Maoist Politburo member recently had warned against giving the project to the Indian Company.
