Nepal Supreme Court annuls status of Ravi Lamichhane as member of parliament

<span style="color: #222222;">The Supreme Court of Nepal has annulled the status of Ravi Lamichhane as a member of parliament citing that the citizenship he had to contest the election was not valid. He held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Nepal taking oath on 26th December 2022. A constitutional bench led by Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki issued the verdict today.<br />''<br />''The verdict reads that Lamichhane was not qualified to contest the House of Representatives election as he did not take initiative to obtain Nepali citizenship after renouncing his American citizenship.<br />''<br />''As Lamichhane has been removed from the House, he will also lose the position of the Deputy Prime Minister unless he gets citizenship. Rabi Lamichhane was a journalist turned politician who founded the Rashtriya Swatantra Party and was elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan 2 in the 2022 general election.</span><br />
