Nepal’s Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice to the government and Minister for Information and Communications Agni Sapkota asking why his ministerial position should not be suspended for his alleged involvement on serious human rights violation.The order issued by the single bench of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi has asked Sapkota, who is also a senior Maoist leader, to furnish a written reply and present himself before the court by June 5. The show cause notice also applies to other defendants including the government, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Kavre District Police Office.The apex court order was in response to a PIL filed by a group of human rights activists. The petitioners had demanded court intervention to take action against Sapkota for his alleged involvement in the murder of a person in 2005. Sapkota, however, has denied his involvement in the killing.
