Nepal s Prez urges political parties to form consensus to elect new PM

Nepal’s President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav today expressed concern over the continuing political stalemate and urged the political parties to arrive at a consensus to elect a new Prime Minister to end the peace process and complete the drafting of the constitution. Talking to newsmen after meeting the President, the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Mr. Subhash Nemwang said the President is deeply concerned over the continuing political deadlock. Mr. Namwang expressed hope that a new Prime Minister will be elected in the third phase of polling in parliament on second of August. In reply to a question, he said there is no proposal to amend the rules relating to election process of the Prime Minister as provided under the interim constitution. Meanwhile, CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has reiterated his party's stand to abstain from the voting process in the next phase of Prime Minister's election. Addressing a programme in Kathmandu today, Khanal urged the Maoist and the Nepali Congress candidates to withdraw from electoral race to create a climate of consensus to form a national unity government instead of a majority government. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that President Yadav expressed similar concerns over the when the care taker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal called on him yesterday to apprise him of the current political development in the country.
