In Nepal, the Special Committee on integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants chaired by the Prime Minister has decided to prepare a tangible action plan to complete the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants by mid-January 2011 before the extended term of the UN Mission in Nepal expires. Talking to newsmen after a meeting of the Special Committee, Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimirey said the meeting has formed a three-member sub-committee comprising one representative each from the Unified CPN(Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to prepare the action plan within four days. He said the meeting also decided to update the details of Maoist combatants living in cantonments with latest inputs from the UN Mission in Nepal and the Unified CPN (Maoist). The meeting chaired by the care-taker Prime Minister Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal has also decided to activate the Secretariat of the Special Committee to bring the Maoist army under the control and command of the Special Committee. The 12-member Secretariat consist of one member each from the national army, police, armed police and the Maoist army in addition to the eight-member technical committee that will oversee the work relating to detachment of Maoist combatants from the command of the Unified CPN(Maoist) and bring them under the control and command of the Special Committee. There are over 19,000 Maoist combatants currently living in 28 cantonments spread across the country.
