Nepal's President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has urged all political parties to form a new government based on consensus within a week. A press statement issued by the President's office asked all the political parties in parliament to elect a new Prime Minister by 21st of this month under the provision of Article 38 (1) of interim Constitution. The President's fresh appeal to the parties to form a new government on the basis of consensus comes after six-month long exercise among the political parties to elect a new Prime Minister failed to yield any results due to the trust deficit among the parties. Nepal’s parliament has held 16 rounds of voting since the beginning of election process on 21st July last year to elect a new Prime without any success. Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel who remained the only candidate in the fray finally withdrew from the contest on 12th of this month to pave way for a fresh process to form a new government. Nepal has been without an effective government since the incumbent caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal resigned on June 30 last year. Analyst say, with the three major parties – the Maoist, Nepali Congress, and the CPN(UML) each demanding that they be allowed to head the next government, it is uncertain how long will the fresh process take to elect a new Prime Minister.
