In Nepal, four candidates have filed their nomination papers for the post of Prime Minister for which election will be held in Parliament on Thursday. They include Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairman Prachanda, Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel, CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Madhesh Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik ) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchadar.AIR correspondent reports, under the amended election regulation, if the candidates failed to get a simple majority in the 601-member parliament on Thursday, two more rounds will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with the top candidates contesting in the last round of voting. The parliament has tried to tighten the poll process by ruling that lawmakers will not be allowed to remain neutral or abstain from voting. Since none of the four parties enjoy majority, they need to garner support among themselves to attain a simple majority. Maoist Chairman Prachanda and Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel have taken part in the previous rounds of voting in parliament last year but failed to get elected even after 16 rounds of polling. CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal pulled out of the contest before the first round of voting after he failed to gain support of two third majority. Madhesh Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) candidate Bijay Kumar Gachchadar has filed his nomination to contest the the Prime Ministerial election for the first time.
