Nepal parliament goes for 4th round of voting to elect new PM

Nepal's parliament will go for fourth round of polling this afternoon to elect a new Prime Minister. The re-polling is being held as both the contesting candidates – Unified CPN(Maoist) Chairman Prachanda and the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudyal failed to get elected in the last three rounds of polling as they could not muster the required simple majority. In the 601- member parliament, a winning candidate must secure 301 votes to obtain a simple majority.CPN (UML), the third largest party in the parliament has reiterated its stand not to support any of the two candidates in the electoral fray until a consensus is achieved to form a national unity government. The United Democratic Madhesh Front (UDMF) – an alliance of four Tarai based parties, who abstained from voting in the last three rounds of polling, is holding a crucial meeting in Kathmandu today to take a decision on whether to support or not to support any one of the two candidates in the Prime Ministerial election this afternoon.
