Nepal parliament convenes special session to discuss formation of new Govt.

In Nepal, the special session of the parliament has been prorogued from late this evening to pave way for convening a regular session of parliament to discuss the formation of the new government. The Chief Whip of the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) Post Bahadut Bogati today withdrew his party's two key proposals registered for discussion in parliament after President Ram Baran Yadav convened the special session from 19th of this month at the behest of the Maoists and some smaller parties. The proposals included withdrawal of the candidature of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel from the Prime Ministerial election and amendment of the parliamentary regulations to begin afresh the election process in the parliament. This follows an agreement reached among the three major parties – Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) earlier today to summon a regular session of Parliament by concluding the special session.Addressing the parliament this evening, Speaker Subash Nemwang expressed hope that the understandings reached among the major parties today will pave way for fruitful discussions among them to end the political deadlock on formation of the new government.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the government has agreed to convene regular session of parliament within a week giving top priority to the issues relating to formation of the new government on the basis of agreement reached among the major parties.
