In Nepal, Loktantra Diwas is being observed all over the country on Sunday. Speaking at a function in Kathmandu, Prime Minister, Jhala Nath Khanal said the day might inspire all political parties and lawmakers to complete the tasks of peace and constitution writing through consensus and co-operation among themselves. He said the nation would find headway only through a national consensus and stabilising the democratic republic is Nepal’s primary challenge at the moment. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Vice President Paramananda Jha, House Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang, Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung among others were present at the programme. This is the fifth anniversary of the historic People's Movement-II- Loktantra Diwas . On this day, four years ago, the then nation head, former King Gyanendra Shah, ceded power to the people bowing down to the intense pressure that the April uprising had piled up on his regime. A special function was held at the Army Pavilion in the capital to mark the day, with the Nepal Army displaying march past and playing military band and various organisations presenting cultural shows.
