Nepal: Nominations for 2nd & final phase of parliament & assembly polls to be filed today

In Nepal, nominations for the second and final phase of parliament and assembly elections will be filed today. <br/><br/>Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu this evening, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said that nominations for 128 constituencies of House of Representatives and 256 for State Assemblies will be filed in 45 districts. He said, candidates can submit their papers between 10 AM to 5 PM in the office of Chief Election Officers and Election Officers in their respective areas. <br/><br/>Candidates can withdraw their names on Sunday and final list of candidates will be published on the same day. Polling for the second and final phase will be held on December 7. Election for first round is scheduled on 26 November. <br/><br/>702 candidates are in fray for the first phase for 37 constituencies of House of Representatives and 74 seats of Provincial Assemblies in 32 districts. <br/><br/>As per the new constitution of Nepal, local, province and parliament elections need to be completed by January 21 next year. Local elections have been successfully completed in September. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner met President Bidhya Devi Bhandari at Kathmandu today and briefed her about preparations for upcoming parliament and assembly elections. <br/><br/>President expressed satisfaction over preparations and said that it is necessary to conduct elections as per schedule.
