In Nepal, an Army Committee has decided to begin the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants living in UN monitored cantonments from 17th of this month. This is aimed at completing the stalled peace process in the next four months. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Special Committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in Kathmandu today. Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Nepali Congress member in the committee, Dr. Ram Saran Mahat said, the Special Committee meeting to be held tomorrow will decide the strategy on the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist fighters and to bring them under the control and command of the Special Committee with establishment of a special secretariat for the purpose. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that Nepal's caretaker government and the opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) inked a four-point agreement on Monday that agreed to complete the three-year-old peace process by January 14, and to request the UN Security Council to extend the tenure of UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by four months with the same mandate.
