Nepal launches Disaster Risk Reduction Toolkit

<br/>In Nepal, the Vice Chairman of Constituent Assembly Ms. Purna Kumari Subedi has launched the Disaster Risk Reduction Toolkit—developed and supported by the European Union and the UN with the view to inform and sensitise the Constituent Assembly members on disasters and need for strengthening policy framework to address disaster risks.<br/>Dr. Alexander Spachis, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nepal and Robert Piper, United Nations Resident Coordinator jointly handed the first copy of DRR Tool Kit to Subedi, who launched the kit amid a gathering including Constituent Assembly members, government officials, UN Agencies and various other stakeholders in Kathmandu recently.<br/>Addressing the gathering, Subedi highlighted the severe impact of disasters on the people and economy of Nepal and stressed on the need for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction. She hoped that the kit would be of immense use for policy makers.<br/>AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the toolkit designed to sensitize the policy makers on disaster issues comprises of overview of disasters in Nepal, existing legislation on disaster management, high risk areas, need for strengthening disaster reduction framework through an inclusive approach addressing special needs of different vulnerable people, disaster map of Nepal, disaster fact sheet and proposed flood early warning strategy as a key DRR measures for Nepal.
