In Nepal, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) today staged a sit-in demonstration outside the District Administration Office, Kathmandu protesting against the murder of Arun Kumar Singhaniya, the owner of a regional newspaper and FM radio in Janakpur on Monday evening by unknown assailants.<br/><br/>Protest demonstrations were also held in different districts by the Federation and various media houses criticised the government for its alleged failure to ensure law and order.<br/> Singhaniya's murder comes barely a month after media entrepreneur Jamim Shah was gunned down last month in Kathmandu.<br/><br/>In a joint press statement, Editors of major English and Nepali dailies in Kathmandu have strongly condemned the murder of Arun Kumar Singhaniya, the Chairman of – Janakput Today – and demanded that the guilty be brought to book.<br/><br/>In an another incident, Nagendra Pampati, an Indian national and the Managing Director of College of Medical Sciences, Bharatpur in Chitwan district narrowly escaped an attempt on his life in Kathmandu last evening. The assailants who came on a motorbike opened fire at Pampati's vehicle, but he escaped unhurt.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent C.K. Dorjee reports from Kathmandu that "Meanwhile a delegation of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Nepal Chamber of Commerce have called on the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and urged him to improve the security situation. <br/><br/>They demanded establishment of an industrial security force to provide protection to industries and businessmen, especially in the Terai region in view of increasing incidents of killings, kidnappings and extortion. <br/><br/>They have warned the Prime Minister that they would close down all industries and businesses if the security situation did not improve within a month. The Prime Minister reportedly assured that security would be beefed up and law and order would improve within a month."<br/>
