President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that Nepal is passing through an important historical phase. Addressing the people on the occasion of 38th Education Day at Kathmandu today she said that after promulgation of the constitution, completion of local polls is in the final stage and preparations for provincial and parliamentary elections are on. <br/><br/>President Bhandari expressed hope that these elections will strengthen constitutional and legislative institutions of governance in the country. She said that now the main responsibility is to make Nepal a prosperous nation based on social justice and equality. President Bhandari said that education is the pillar of development. <br/><br/>She said that it helps in producing socially, culturally and politically aware citizens and provides them atmosphere and infrastructure to become economically competent. On this occasion President Bhandari also conferred medals to 351 students for their meritorious performances in various fields.
