Nepal government has declared an energy crisis and is to constitute a three member, Energy Crisis Commission to address the issue. Addressing Parliament, yesterday Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari said the Commission will oversee the government programmes for power production and use. Unveiling an action plan to meet the current energy crisis Mr. Adhikari, announced a target to produce 2500 MW of electricity within four and half years to meet the electricity demand. The government has pledged additional five billion rupees to be allocated to the power sector for the current financial year. An additional fifteen billion rupees loan will be taken from government institutions. Nepal has targeted to reduce the power loss from existing 26 percent to 20 percent within the next six months. As per the plan, the government has targeted not to impose load shedding for more than 12 hours a day from next year. Our correspondent reports, that at present, there is a load shedding for 14 hours a day.
