Nepal: Govt decides to withdraw Citizenship Act-2006 bill

<span style="color: #222222;">In Nepal, the government has decided to withdraw the bill to amend the Citizenship Act-2006 that is under consideration of the Parliament.<br />''<br />''Nepalese Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Koirala told the local media that the Cabinet yesterday decided to withdraw the bill from Parliament and register a new one by removing some provisions in the existing draft. He further said, the new bill with provisions agreed upon by the political parties will be tabled in the house. The bill remained on hold due to parties' differences over some provisions since August 2018.<br />''<br />''Local Media reports that despite discussing the bill for more than two years, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives could not build a consensus on the bill, prompting it to make decisions through a vote. The government was also consulting with various political parties on how to move ahead with the bill.</span><br />
