Nepal government is considering lifting ban on its citizens working in Iraq. ccording to official sources, Foreign Ministry has written to the Labour Ministry recommending immediate lifting of the ban, after the US government assured that it would retain Nepalese workers in Iraq if Nepal will lift the ban on its migrants from working in Iraq. The Spokesperson of Labour Ministry Purna Chandra Bhattarai said the government will soon take a decision to protect the interest of its migrant workers after the US Central Command directed all companies working for it to remove workers not in compliance with the local, international and US laws and the laws of the home country of the workers.There are more than 30,000 Nepalese working in Iraq through illegal channels.AIR correspndent reports, Nepal had banned its citizens from working in Iraq some six years ago after 12 Nepali workers were kidnapped and killed in that country. US ambassador to Nepal Scott DeLisi had assured Nepali authorities that it would not repatriate Nepali workers from Iraq, if Nepal lifts the ban imposed onnits citizens during a meeting with foreign ministry officials yesterday. More than thirty thousand Nepalese working in Iraq were facing risk of repatriation after the US Central Command directed all companies working for it to remove workers not in compliance with the local, international and US laws and the laws of the home country of the workers.
