Nepal government has for the first time begun to measure the height of the world’s highest peak Mount Everest on its own resources. The Ministry of Land Reform and Management has begun the measurement of the Mount Everest which is known as Sagarmatha locally. This follows claims and counter claims of the height of the highest peak in the world. that have been surfacing from time to time. Nepal government says that Mount Everest is 8.848 metres which is officially accepted ,while an American geologist Wash Borne had claimed that the height of Everest was 8.850 metres.
