The Nepal government has announced to release Rs.1 billion to flood and landslide victims. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund Committee held at Kathmandu today. <br/><br/>According to a press release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister Rs 50 crore would be released immediately to carry out rescue operations, distribution of relief materials and providing compensations to the flood and landslide victims. <br/><br/>At least 123 persons have lost their lives and 35 are missing in the flood and landslide triggered by incessant rains. <br/><br/>Property worth millions of rupees have been destroyed and most parts of Terai region is inundated. Meanwhile President Bidya Devi Bhandari has drawn the government's attention towards preventing shortage of food supplies and medicines in the flood affected areas. In a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Kathmandu today, President Bhandari expressed grief at the loss of lives and properties in the flood and landslides. <br/><br/>The member of parliament also drew the attention of the government towards the loss of lives and properties in recent natural calamity. During a special discussion on the issues of public importance, the members called for a political unity to cope with the adverse situation collectively and to ensure relief to the people.
