Nepal gets $75 m World Bank aid for road projects

The World Bank has pledged to provide $75 million to Nepal as an additional assistance for the implementation of the Road Sector Development Project. The Ministry of Finance in a press statement in Kathmandu said the total cost of the project is $125.5 million and the remaining will be borne by the government.Out of the total World Bank assistance, $33.74 million is grant and $41.2 million is credit. The Ministry of Physical Planning and Works and the Department of Road are the executing and implementing agencies.The release said the object of the road development project is to provide locals of beneficiary districts to have all season road access, thereby reducing travel time and improving access to economic and social services.The project includes upgrading and repairing works of 700 km existing roads in eight districts, Baitidi, Bajhang, Daurchala, Dalieh, Kalikot, Jumla, Rukum and Jajarkot.The project also includes institutional strengthening and policy development activities of road maintenance development project as well as support new ones that have been identified by Nepal government.
