In Nepal, a 17-member Parliamentary Monitoring Committee to oversee Peace Process has been announced. The Constituent Assembly on Monday formed the Committee which is headed by the Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang. The Committee includes four representatives from the UCPN (Maoist), two each from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Madhes-based parties and five members from the fringe parties. The all party parliamentary peace process committee which was agreed to be formed when the term of the current Constituent Assembly was extended on the 29th of last month when the three major parties agreed to a five point deal. The formation of the Committee was delayed as the Maoist party did not send the names due to internal rift within it’s party. Meanwhile the taskforce formed to settle contentious issues related to constitution drafting today submitted its report to the Dispute Resolution Subcommittee. AIR correspondent reports, the five member taskforce formed earlier this month was to try to forge agreement on key disputed issues including the form of governance, state restructuring and electoral system. In its report it has suggested to find a middle path between the exclusive proposals of Unified CPN (Maoist) and the Nepali Congress. The next meeting of the sub-committee of the disputes resolution Committee is crucial to what will the next step be in the constitution drafting.
