In Nepal, third and final phase of local body elections will be held today. Polling for 136 local bodies in Province 2 will start at 7 AM. Nepal-India border has been sealed and more than 60,000 security personnels have been deployed to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections. <br/><br/>After a gap of 20 years people of Tarai will vote for local elections. 3,578 polling centres have been set up in 8 districts of province 2 for third phase. More than 26 lakh voters will exercise their franchise to elect 6,627 local representatives. More than 37,000 candidates are trying their luck in the third and final phase. <br/><br/>Completion of local elections will be an important step towards strengthening democracy in Nepal. As per the new constitution, local, province and parliament elections needs to be completed by 21 January 2018. Provincial and parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 26 and December 7.
