In Nepal, the government has decided to extend the tenure of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights-Nepal (OHCHR) for another six months. The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the extension of the OHCHR-Nepal till December 8th 2011. The current term of the UN human rights body was to expire on the 9th of this month. The Cabinet has also given its approval for sending 170 Nepali Army personnel to Iraq at the request of the UN Peace Mission. They are to be deployed in the southern city of Basra as the UN’s peace enforcement force.
