Nepal: CPN-UML lawmaker Karki gets six-month term in graft case

In Nepal, a Special Court has sentenced CPN-UML lawmaker Dol Bahadur Karki to six months in jail and a fine of one lakh rupees on corruption charges. Karki has thirty- five days to appeal to the Supreme Court. A full bench of the Special Court at Kathmandu on Sunday also sentenced his accomplice Swami Brahmananada Udasin to four months imprisonment and one lakh rupees fine. The Commission for Investigation for Abuse for Authority had filed a chargesheet last September against the two at the Special Court. The police had caught Karki red- handed for taking a bribe promising a job to an aspirant. He had been suspended from Parliament after the charge-sheet had been filed against him.
