Nepal constitution drafting complete by middle of April next year

In Nepal, three major political parties – Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) – have agreed to complete the constitution drafting process by the middle of April next year. The decision was taken at a meeting of senior leaders of the three parties held at Kathmandu today. Talking to newsmen, the Chairman of Constituent Assembly Mr. Subhadh Nemwang, who convened the meeting said the three main parties have arrived at an agreement to prepare a revised a statute drafting time table in a manner that would ensure promulgation of the new constitution by middle of April 2011. He said the agreement reached today would be further discussed with smaller parties in the constituent assembly for their involvement in the constitution drafting process. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the term of the constituent assembly was extended by a year from May 28 after the parties failed to draft the new statute within the two-year term of the assembly due to differences among the parties on key features of the constitution. Meanwhile, a bomb exploded close to the constituent assembly hall at New Baneshwor in Kathmandu today creating panic among the local residents. However, police said the explosion did not cause any casualty or damage to property. Police found pamphlets scattered in the area, claiming the blast was caried out by a new organisation called Dynamic Youth Force.
