Nepal's President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on Indian Army Chief General V.K.Singh. The order was conferred at a special investiture ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Kathmandu this afternoon. President Yadav, who is also the supreme commander of the Nepal Army, presented General Singh with an insignia and a citation. Vice President Parmananda Jha, Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari, Nepal Army Chief General Chhatra Mansingh Gurung and Indian Ambassador Mr. Rakesh Sood were among those present at the investiture ceremony.Earlier in the day, General Singh made a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari. Our AIR correspondent reports that During his current visit to Nepal, Genral Singh inspected the high altitude warfare training centre at Jomson and western division headquarters of the Nepal Army at Pokhra. He also visited the Indian Army pension distribution centre at Pokhra and presented specially designed scooters to six handicapped soldiers and sewing machines to families of soldiers who lost their lives in the discharge of their duty. India enjoys a special military relationship with Nepal, with a large number of Nepalese Gorkha soldiers and officers serving in the Indian Army. These included 35,000 Gorkha soldiers serving in the Indian Army and 120,000 retired soldiers.
