Nepal bandh passes off peacefully

In Nepal, baring sporadic incidents of violence and clashes between the police and the agitating Maoists, the bandh by and large passed off peacefully this evening. The Unified CPN (Maoist) called the nation wide bandh to protest police shooting on illegal forest settlers in Kailai district that left four dead and dozens wounded.The clash occurred when police were trying to evict thousands of illegal settlers from the Dudhejhari forest in Baliya village in western Nepal.According to police sources, 41 Maoist activists from across the country were taken into custody for vandalizing shops and vehicles.
