Nepal amends PM poll regulation to end political stalemate

In Nepal, the parliament on amended the constitutional provision on Tuesday relating to the election of the new Prime Minister to end the political stalemate. The amendment calls for a fresh process for election if the parliament fails to elect the Prime Minister after three rounds of voting. The earlier provision stipulates unending rounds of voting until a new Prime Minister was elected through a majority vote or the contesting candidate withdraws from election process. AIR Correspondent reports that the amendment of the interim constitution on Prime Minister's election procedure follows withdrawal of the lone Nepali Congress candidate Ram Chandra Poudel from the electoral race after 16 rounds of failed attempts to get elected.
