Nepal: 702 candidates in fray for 1st phase of parliamentary, provincial elections scheduled on 26th Nov

In Nepal, 702 candidates are in the fray for the first phase of parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled on the 26th of next month. The country's Election Commission said, 100 candidates withdrew their names yesterday, while one nomination was cancelled. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that after withdrawal of names 282 candidates are in race for 37 constituencies of House of Representatives and 420 candidates for 74 seats of Provincial Assemblies in 32 districts. Former Prime Minister and Naya Shakti Party Nepal, Coordinator, Baburam Bhattarai and fomer Deputy PM and Senior leader of CPN (Maoist Centre) Narayan Kaji Shrestha are among prominent candidates in the first phase. <br/><br/>They are contesting against each other from Gorkha 2 parliamentary constituency. Many other heavy weights also trying their luck in first round. <br/>Nominations for remaining 45 districts for second and final round will be filed on 2nd of next month and voting will take place on December 7th. As per the new constitution of Nepal, local, province and parliament elections need to be completed by 21st January next year. Local elections were successfully completed last month.
