Nehru Cup: India beat Syria 2-1 in opening match

India have won their opening match in the Nehru Cup football tournament. At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi tonight, they beat Syria 2-1. With the win, India earned three points. Sunil Chhetri gave India the lead just before half-time. The goal came when Clifford Miranda's cross from the left, was headed into the far corner by the Indian skipper. The second goal came through Anthony Pereira in the 84th minute. Syria reduced the margin in the dying minutes of the game through Alaa Alshbli. In all, five teams are taking part in the 15th edition of the tournament. The three other teams are Nepal, Maldives and Cameroon.
