Neeraj Kumar to be new Commissioner of Police of National Capital

Neeraj Kumar, a 1976 batch IPS officer from AGMU cadre, today took over as the new Commissioner of Police of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. He succeds the outgoing Commissioner B K Gupta. Mr Kumar was the Director General (Prisons) in Delhi before taking over the charge. Reacting to his new assignment, Kumar said it is a matter of a great honour and he will try hard to fulfill the expectations of the people.

Our Correspondent reports that a post graduate from prestigious St Stephen's College, the 59-year IPS officer had served in the Central Bureau of Investigation during which he probed Mumbai serial blasts.

In his address at the Farewell Parade on the occasion of his retirement today, Mr Gupta said, he had a very satisfying tenure as Delhi Police Chief. He underlined the need for treating constabulary with respect as they continue to serve the people under the scorching sun at 45 degrees celsius.

Referring to law and situation in the city, Mr Gupta said that there was a decrease in the number of crime between 2011 till now.
