Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said, the economy like India immediately needs to regulate the merger and acquisition process for the free flow of trade and services in the country. Speaking during the ICN Merger Workshop 2014, which was organised by Competition Commission of India in New Delhi, Mr Jailtley said the market place in India has now reached a situation where huge amount of capacity building is taking place.He also said that the market regulator should expand its jurisdiction to ensure that every player in the market gets a level playing field. Mr Jaitley said the government will consider how to synchronize the jurisdiction of multiple market and industry regulators and blend their functioning in the Make in India campaign.He also stressed the need for sharing of global experiences in the field of mergers and acquisitions to fully develop the competition law and practice. The objective of the workshop is to discuss and share experiences on various issues and challenges faced by competition authorities in international cooperation in case of multi- jurisdictional merger filings.
